Sonia is a character who enters discreetly and then suddenly takes hold of the story. I was sitting on the RER train headed to Paris when I decided to translate a few more pages. By coincidence, I was at the chapter titled "Blackmail." A particularly powerful moment caught me off guard, and I burst into tears-perhaps because I had grown attached to the character, or simply because I'm afraid of death. Reading this novel while translating it into another language was an unexpectedly intense experience. I eagerly await what comes next...
