"It is regrettable, but true, that the average American patriot has little conception of the extent to which high school textbooks have been tainted and contaminated with un-American propaganda. While it is generally known that there are such things as pro-Soviet textbooks in use in some of our schools, the common tendency has been to pooh-pooh and belittle the "red menace in education" by claiming that communistic textbooks and teachers exist "only in rare and isolated instances." Only a "tiny minority" are "un-American" and, therefore, there is nothing for parents and patriots to become concerned about. That has all too frequently been the prevailing attitude.
