To the Martyrs and on Flight in Times of Persecution

Tertullian converted to Christianity during a period of persecution. As a leader of this small embattled community, he was keenly aware that its continued existence depended on a collective solidarity and a way to minimize fear. His treatises To the Martyrs and On Flight in Times of Persecution are designed to strengthen the resolve of the community even when threatened with imprisonment and death. These are the first translations of these two important works in English in more than half a century.
