Rewriting the Beauty and the Beast tale On her way home, Alba finds herself swept away by a panicked and totally disoriented crowd. Breathless, she collapses on the porch of a mansion not far from the Buttes Chaumont. When she wakes up, she discovers that Paris has been the target of a mysterious attack at the Saint Lazare train station. The threat now extends to the whole of France.

With no news from her family, she wanders the rich corridors of this building lined with magnificent paintings, like a parenthesis in the midst of the raging chaos.
