Born in 1998 in the Rhineland, Loewentraut has been painting since he was seven years old. Loewentraut combines colours and shapes in a gestural wilderness. Action painting plays an important role during the creativity process. Inspired by Picasso, Matisse and Basquiat, Loewentraut is searching for freedom in his paintings. Loewentraut’s subjects are prevalently human figures, close-up portraits defined through deep lines and colours that are never flat; textured but not mixed. Oftentimes, the artist creates the design within his painting by squeezing the paint out directly from the tube, producing a seemingly spontaneous and primitive figuration. His colour palette, made of bright, vibrant and, at times, neon colours brings to life a psychedelic sensory overload. Signs and shapes intertwine in an outwardly chaotic manner. The artist tends to create a dynamic system that, despite involving a pictorial process that gives way to chance, invariably achieves a structure that is reiterated in the majority of his paintings. Most recently, with support from the UNESCO, the YOU foundation and Geuer & Geuer Gallery, Loewentraut created 17 unique paintings for the campaign #Art4GlobalGoals . These paintings will be on tour for the UN until 2030 for the proclamation and support of sustainable development goals.
