Ce chateau fut la residence des familles Taillefer, Talleyrand-Perigord et plus recemment de la famille Dumoncel. Dependant du chateau, le moulin de Mauriac a traverse les siecles en diversifiant ses activites au fil du temps. Le chateau de Mauriac etait le siege de la juridiction dite de Mauriac et Douzillac pendant l'ancien regime. Pendant quelques annees, le lieutenant de cette juridiction fut Antoine Chevalier-Lareygne, nomme en 1779 par Madame Marie Elisabeth Chamillard, Marquise de Talleyrand.
