Frequency of the Dead is the first novel Jonas Saul wrote over twenty years ago.

Detective Bryce Jacob is on edge. His superiors are threatening suspension, but he won't-he can't-give up the hunt for his son's murderer. At a routine meeting with a confidential informant, Detective Jacob and his CI are injured in something the media call an "air quake." Over a week later, Detective Jacob wakes from a coma with a new talent-he can see the other side.

When a strange woman appears in his hospital room with a warning, he learns he must work with his CI to stop an imminent attack against Los Angeles. The people responsible for the air quake have a larger device, and in a few days, they plan to detonate, killing thousands of people. But before that, they want Detective Jacob dead. They tried once but killed his son instead. They failed a second time with the air-quake device.

Determined to stop them, Detective Jacob goes after them.

But they're ready and waiting for him.

They won't miss again.
