Creating rune staves Using a rune cloth Casting technique Rune casting as social game Cosmological overview Historical overview of the runes Historical rune poems 216 poetic rune oracles Generate an oracle using only this book

29 rune staves x 9 worlds of Norse mythology = 261 individual oracles. Players select and cast rune staves onto a cloth on which contains a simple diagram representing the nine worlds. Runes that fall facedown or outside the diagram are eliminated. The player continues to cast runes until they have the desired number. The player reads the oracles associated with the rune in the world in which it has fallen. Each oracle is rendered as a short poetic stanza rooted in Viking Age life. The book includes: an introduction; detailed instructions, including for group play and a social game; brief summaries of the history of the runes and the nine worlds; hints for interpreting the oracles; the 261 oracles; and example readings. The system has been tested and calibrated. For generating a quick oracle the book includes a pick-a-path system, requiring only the book.
