The marriage of Bart Rollins and wife, Loretta, has hit a new low. Late on a dark, foggy night, while returning home from a wedding, a figure steps from behind a large oak tree, off the curb and into the street, and is hit and killed instantly. Bart, due to his constant trouble from Loretta, has been drinking at the wedding throughout most of the day and night. In a panic, Bart envisions the crisis he faces: undoubtedly years in prison if apprehended. With no other cars in the immediate area and no witnesses in sight, he leaves the scene.
