Dr. Judge served as a combat military physician during the Vietnam war. He subsequently was an N.I.H. fellow for two years, researching Viral Oncology and then embarked on a 40 plus year career as a practicing anatomic and clinical pathologist and department head, while also acquiring a law degree because of his interest in forensics. Most of the essays in this book were the result of his career-long, sporadic engagements with the federal government in attempting to obtain approval and care for military service veterans for illnesses connected with their service and the frustration and difficulties this often entailed. He also fought for bureaucratic recognition of what pathologists contribute to their medical colleagues’ practices and their patients.
