Anna is born in a small Alabama town in 1955. Her father, William, goes north soon afterward in search of better work but never returns, leaving Anna and her mother, Jeanie, alone to fend for themselves.
In desperation, Jeanie calls upon her brother Henry for help with Anna’s care, having no idea what kind of impact this decision will have on Anna’s life. Her uncle’s abuse of her continues until her mother remarries and they move to South Carolina. But as Anna grows, she wonders why God has let the people she loves and trusts bring so much pain and darkness into her world. Through years of heartache, Anna faces many conflicts and troubles. Eventually, however, she makes it to college, where she meets Linda, a roommate who introduces her to Jesus. This pivotal event moves her heart and connects her to faith in a way she never thought possible.
In this narrative, a young woman dealing with childhood abandonment and trauma has an unexpected encounter with a blessing that changes her life forever.
