Set around the time of the Tain Bo Cuailnge (Cattle Raid of Cooley, the centre of the mythological sagas of the Ulster Cycle), when presented as a whole it is an epic tale of grand proportion, a series of saga-type monologues written from each character's individual perspective, outlining the bloodlust, deceit, heroism, love, revenge, honour, and sacrifice that were the hallmarks of the time.
