In the 1800's, young farm boy Willheim Brandt dreams of being a cowboy like his older brothers. They tell him adventurous and dangerous tales of pushing longhorns to buyers who ship them east for beef. When he's had enough of the farm, he rides to Sonora and hires onto Eddy Flores's outfit. He doesn't have the skills of a cowboy, nor the gear to do the work. His only assets are being smart, willing to learn, and an extra shirt his mama made for him. With his first months' pay and a list of goods, he and another trail hand, Adam, who becomes his best friend, head to the general store.

Willheim ends up tangling with prostitute, Elizabeth Hartley. Little does he know she has plans for him. He manages to sever ties with her, but leaves her an exquisite cameo. He has no idea of the bitter grudge the woman holds or how low she will go to get vengeance on him for something else, he doesn't know he leaves.

He becomes a fine cowboy and garners respect. It's almost as if he can do anything he sets his mind to, except one. He cannot save his brother Tavias' life. When he finds out Tavy is dead, he is given a message from him asking Will to promise to find his beloved Valentine.

Because of he and Tavy's special bond, he makes that promise and aims to keep it. However, he's not prepared for the surprise that awaits him when he finally finds Valentine.

Will he go the extra mile to keep his promise, or will keeping his word get him killed?
