ALS II Course 6: Listening Communication Leadership Attribute-Effective communication occurs at the convergence of listening attention, hearing, and understanding of the information transmitted.
A leader-servant faces three important types of communication at one point or the other. At the core is listening ability as the inner strength and ability to receive and understand the meanings of words and messages internally and accurately in a two-way communication process. How does a leader-servant communication with God, the Holy Spirit, and followers (individually or collectively) be most effective? The course explores how the three elements-words spoken, unspoken, and in the spirit-offer unique reflections on the communication process and what they share in common. How does listening serve as a critical element of effective communication between people and form the bridge by which a leader can be effective? A leader's capacity to listen to communicate effectively depends on the leader's inner strength to perceive, hear, and understand the information from written, verbal, and non-verbal exchanges. Each characteristic of listening communications attribute will be discussed in detail with emphasis on strategies of how they can be further developed or practiced by a leader-servant. Practice questions at the end of each chapter are used to guide your development and to frame meanings out of the content to improve your acts of listening leadership process.
