Ambition describes the lives and relationships of Ethan Allen's aspiring extended family of brothers, sisters, wives, children, grandchildren, and associates. Many of these characters helped create the original republic we now know as Vermont. Ambition also dives into the Allens' relationship with the institution of slavery and grapples with their treatment of the Indians on unceded land.
