The Witch-Finder General vs. the Firebrand-Darlings takes a fresh look at the work of England's "Witch-finder General," Matthew Hopkins. It traces his short, sorted life, and discusses the pain and death he caused to hundreds, and the fear he evoked in thousands of others. The reign of Hopkins as England's most prolific persecutor of witches was terrible. Yet, he felt no guilt from his crimes. On the contrary, he expressed pride in torturing and executing witches. The Witch-Finder General vs. the Firebrand-Darlings concentrates on the justifications Hopkins gave for his blatant violation of British law and the exorbitant fees he charged communities for his dubious services. It also looks at some of the tools Hopkins uses in his witch-finding pursuits and how Hopkins and other Puritan witch-finders employed the Bible to aid them in their activities.
