Following a volcanic eruption in Wyoming and the devastating emergence of another wicked virus, Mercedes Singleton finds herself lost in a grey world. Nothing can fill her emptiness in faith, love and hope.

Then she meets Olivia, a fellow nurse at her hospital, and discovers that God, the Holy Spirit, is real while attending her underground church.

When they are arrested for illegal activities, they are sent to a rehabilitation camp. Through the secret intervention of her childhood friend Mack Gersham, working for a subversive Army organization, she is freed, only to find that chaos, sickness, and espionage await her in her hometown of Whitsville in the person of Ricardo Medina who boards with her family.
