I wrote this years ago while me dad was still living, but too old to actually fish anymore, though he enjoyed driving out to the East End of Galveston Island and watching other people fish right up until the last days of his life. I hoped it would stir his memories and recollections of those days when he was able to actively pursue his interest in the outdoors and his desire to be on the water with a line and a pole.I’ve been very fortunate in my life in many ways, and not the least of that good fortune was my dad’s willingness to include me in so many of his fishing expeditions, and allow me to absorb and enjoy the natural world.I don’t fish much anymore, but I have, as my dad had, a great store of wonderful memories, and I’ll be eternally grateful to him for that.
