Offering the reader more than the excitement of travels and adventures in 1977 Europe and the Middle East, Barry Hampshire’s engaging memoir examines the formative moments that helped him to mature and to design his life from the inside out bringing him spiritual joy. Marianne McBride, a companion on life’s highway.
In 1977, I drove 5,500-miles from England through Europe and the Middle East. Today, that journey would be too dangerous due to civil war and fleeing refugees. Forty years ago, it was feasible. Was it safe? No. Did that stop me and two friends from doing it? No. Did we do it for the thrill or for a purpose? Both. At times we wondered if we would survive. This journey and later Arabian adventures gave me an understanding of the larger world and my place and purpose in that world. I now enjoy a life that is informed and enriched by those experiences and allows me to fulfil that purpose.
