After twenty years of decorated naval duty, he transitioned into civilian leadership, serving as a network engineer at Langley Air Force Base and a federal IT specialist. He holds degrees in sociology and business, but it is his life experience-from a tumultuous Brooklyn childhood to a career built on service-that fuels his writing.
Owens' memoir Syrup Sandwiches: Choose Not to Give Up! won the 2023 Next Generation Indie Book Award in the BIPOC category and multiple International Impact Book Awards.
