ChristLit Book Award 2025 - Church and Ministry category Woven Prayers is a ministerial handbook based on Scriptures and prayers. It has 41 devotional lessons and eight crochet patterns divided into three areas: Personal Relationship with God, Interpersonal Relationship with Others, and Ministerial Relationship with the World. It allows opportunities for personal reflection and a discussion guide for groups.
Reverend Evelyn Rainey, STM has crocheted since she was 8 years old and has taught and still teaches crochet. For five years, she facilitated a Prayer Shawl Ministry. They crocheted caps for adjudicated youth, christening sets for newborn babies of unmarried teen parents, afghans for homeless women veterans, and shawls for anyone who needed comfort while going through times of illness, distress, or grief. Along the way, they faced many challenges and obstacles, but also learned a great deal.
Whether you crochet at a beginner or master level, you can use this book individually for weekly devotions, or to form, facilitate and support your own Prayer Shawl Ministry.
