Sophia Hill, a world-renown author, is working on the sixth and final volume of her immensely popular fantasy book series. However, when she receives a bizarre death threat, her world is rocked. Dealing with the added stresses of a teenage daughter and the demands of her publisher, Sophia sees her life beginning to unravel. Jack Eaton, the detective assigned to the case, works feverishly to find who wants Sophia dead. Fighting a bureaucracy that is more interested in advancing careers than solving cases, he finds little support.
