In this issue of The Proceedings of GREAT Day, student scholars showcase the disciplinary range that SUNY Geneseo has long prided itself on. The distinct essays that we chose to feature break the mold in order to delve into issues that affect a multitude of people. They step effortlessly from one discipline to another in a way that students of Geneseo will likely find familiar; in many ways these essays parallel the way in which their institution has taught them to view and approach issues from all over the globe from a variety of perspectives. Whether that means examining alternative birthing practices from around the world to make labor more manageable here in upstate NY, observing Western biases, or exploring the ways in which Chinese international failures affected cultural and political decisions decades later, the undergraduate researchers and writers in this issue display a striking awareness and understanding of an array of different worldviews. In its eighth year, The Proceedings of GREAT Day continues to publish creative and scholarly student work presented at the college-wide symposium GREAT (Geneseo Recognizes Excellence, Achievement & Talent) Day. The journal is available online at http: //greatjournal.geneseo.edu. Geneseo Recognizing Excellence, Achievement & Talent Day is a college-wide symposium celebrating the creative and scholarly endeavors of our students. In addition to recognizing the achievements of our students, the purpose of GREAT Day is to help foster academic excellence, encourage professional development, and build connections within the community.
