Lewis Frobisher is a man with a colourful history.
Raised on the streets of London under the reigns of the Stuarts, he finds employ as a cabin boy aboard His Majesty's Ship Lion following a series of incidents at his almshouse in Cripplegate. As the experiences at sea become more hazardous with the growing threat from the Kingdom of France, Lewis is pulled into a devastating war spanning the whole of Europe. In order to survive he will need to muster every bit of courage at his disposal.
Betrayal and hardship seem to rear their ugly heads at every turn, forcing Lewis into some dire circumstances. However, for all of his decisions it rapidly becomes clear that sailors in the Royal Navy are subject to the whims of their superiors. More often than not, Lewis finds himself carried along on waves not of his own choosing. Like the crew of the Lion tend to say, 'if you ever want to make God laugh, tell Him you have a plan.'
This is the first entry in the 'Lewis Frobisher Tales' trilogy of books. Taking place during the last decades of seventeenth-century Europe, the world is rife with religious conflicts and questions concerning the rights of kingship. For most it is a time of warfare and suffering. Fortunately, for those willing to seize the opportunity there is a chance at riches beyond imagining.
