Twelve-year-old Alex never expected his polite, cookie-baking stepmother to try and poison him-but when he starts suspecting her intentions, he does what any rational orphan would do: makes a deal with a dying magician.

Now, armed with a shaky plan and his best friend Enzo, Alex journeys into the neighboring land of Whimsy-a place where wands don't work, talking peacocks crash breakfast, and danger wears a very glittery smile. With only their wits (and questionable instincts), the boys must outsmart enchanted beasts, dodge explosive magic, and locate a wish-granting crystal before Alex's stepmother finishes what she started.
