A story set at the end of the 19th century, in Newcastle upon Tyne. Woven into the narrative is information about relevant landmarks of the city. The central figure is Eleanor who was brought up on Tyneside but who witnesses a shocking incident which she reluctantly must keep secret. She finds this more and more difficult as time goes on but is unprepared for the devastation it causes.
