Tir na nOg

Tir na nOg is a collection of poems, stories, and essays about writers from Ireland, Scotland, England and America. The book was inspired by C. S .Lewis, George MacDonald, Seamus Heaney, John O’ Donohue, and Jon Foreman; other writers, the ancient Irish myth of Tir na nOg, sehnsucht, the healing power of music, literature, and art, the mountains of North Carolina, and a life changing trip to Ireland, Scotland, and England. Tir na nOg, Wiggins tells us, evokes the sehnsucht mystical joy, experienced by C.S. Lewis and written about in his books, as well as carrying the traditional Irish meaning of Land of the Forever Young. This is a rich educational book showing a deep respect of writers, musicians, and poets, and all forms of Art, and the value of artists in society. I could sum up this book by saying that for me it asked the question ‘What sparks joy?’ and answered the question in a myriad of ways with many examples from great writers, and even more beautifully in the author’s own honest voice.
