Primordial Soup

Christine Leunens

A light zany comic novel with an unforgettable ending. It is is an archetypal Dedalus novel: brilliant, witty, bizarre and totally unique. Adolescence creates in Kate a hunger which she can’t explain and which transforms her hatred of meat into desire. At college she embraces religion, but her biblical studies lead her into seeing the world as a vast meat stew, a primordial soup of ever changing ingredients. Sex seems to offer salvation until she combines it with her hunger for meat. A growing-up novel with a mother from hell, it will make readers thankful that they were spared Kate Lester’s trials and tribulations. AUTHOR: Christine Leunens was born in Hartford, Connecticut, the daughter of an Italian mother and a Belgian Flemish father. After graduating from the University of North Carolina she went to live in Europe with the intention of becoming a writer but ended up a fashion model, working for Givenchy, Pierre Balmain, Paco Rabanne and Nina Ricci. Her success enabled her to give up modelling for horse breeding in Picardy, where she wrote her first play in French,Tu N'As Qu'As and her second Porcelain White in English. She received an award from Centre Nationale du Cinema for her screenplay Maux D'Amour. Christine Leunens now lives in New Zealand with her husband and three children.
