Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Climb that goddamn mountain Jack Kerouac

We’re not professional climbers or world class athletes. This is not a disaster story. None of our team perished in the thin air. But as with every season on Everest, climbers from other teams succumbed to the harsh conditions. Friends made on the hill were hospitalised. Legends like Ueli Steck remain in the Khumbu forever.

Follow Irish Times columnist Rory McHugh’s weekly articles as he joins a low key commercial expedition to climb the world’s highest peak. Beautifully illustrated with photos from Steve Brown as far as the icefall, higher up from Scott MacKenzie, Blake Penson, Rocket Ronnie Rehn, Jonathan Guidry, and forwards from Alan Arnette, and Malachy Logan.

All proceeds for charity with Child Rescue Nepal in aid of building schools in areas of Nepal still recovering from the 2015 earthquake.
