The story is set in the mid-seventeenth century of the interregnum. It starts in the village from which pretty and spirited Jenny is forced to leave when she is accused as a witch , the people and values she encounters when she takes to the road and meets travellers who are homeless through no fault of their own. Jenny’s story ends where it started, in the village, where Jenny has to decide whether to stay or leave with the man she has come to love on her travels.
