This book investigates Colette’s variegated generic choices as so many ways of ‘telling time’. It presents an argument that develops through a five-part sequence, named in homage to the sonata form: ‘exposition’, ‘first subject’, ‘bridge’, ‘second subject’ and ‘recapitulation’.
