Good News!: Preaching the Year of Mark

Reading and enjoying Bill East's homilies for the Year R of Mark made me think how simple a good homily is. All it takes is a good soaking in the Word of God, a quiet heart to pray through it, a mind attuned to the Spirit to ruminate on it, a life-time of experience to reflect on it, a pastor's skills to apply it and a smattering of culture to illustrate it. Quite simple really! Added to all that Bill has had the generosity and courage to share the fruits of his labours with us. I am sure that many will read and use this book with gratitude and joy.
