The author writes of her work: I play with opposition and ambivalence, looking for synthesis, however uneasy and provisional, between such oppositions as home/abroad, inside/outside, north/south, absence/presence, youth/age, male/female, health/disease, past/present…These ideas are often transposed onto landscapes both real and imagined. I am interested in representing the de-Romanticised landscape where the sublime can also be the degraded. The place where I live exhibits these qualities and although I may not draw on it directly, it is always in dialogue with other places I have lived in or passed through.
