The Slingerland Book is a Slingerland family and business history. Slingerland was the world's largest drum company in two eras; the 1920s and 1960s. The company was family owned through both eras. While no Slingerland family members were actually drummers, most company executives were, and many were interviewed for this book. This book has a section dedicated to the many famous drummers who used and endorsed Slingerland products, most notably Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa. The many products that Slingerland produced through the 20th century are surveyed; every catalogued snare drum and drum set are pictured and described as are a great many uncatalogued instruments. Additionally, there are sections on drum features that drum collectors and dealers use to identify and value drums and drum sets; finishes, badges, mufflers, strainers, etc.
This third edition continues the business timeline from where the second edition left it in 2005. Also hundreds of images that were black and white in previous editions have been replaced with color images. Additional images have been added. A great deal of detailed Slingerland information compiled through the arduous research of Carl Wenk has been posted at the site vintagedrumguide.com. This edition of The Slingerland book includes QR codes that take the reader directly to the relevant pages of Wenk's articles.
