Memoirs

In 1848, Hector Berlioz (1803-1869) decided to prepare his Memoirs. Not a formal autobiography, but a series of letters, essays and chapters from earlier volumes of recollections tied together with additional commentary, its preparation occupied the composer for eight years. When he had finished it, he left instructions that it was not to be published until after his death.
