Just missing service in World War II, young Gus Kennedy takes a job with the British Palestine Police, as a welcome break from engineering work in 1940s Dundee. Gus finishes training as a top gun and is selected for special duties. This involves hunting down Jewish terrorists - aka freedom fighters - in the Irgun and Stern Gangs who made life hell during the British Mandate. Ambushes, stake-outs, blow-ups and plain retaliatory murder are the order of the day on both sides. We join Gus, Taffy, Marra and other ‘ghost squad’ hit men as they track down the enemy - and take no prisoners. Gus makes it through in one piece (many didn’t), and here is his story. It may be fiction, but it has the raw edge of truth. This no-holds-barred novel is based on fact - an almost forgotten slice of Middle Eastern history, when British armed forces and police were in the firing line, as the State of Israel arose from the dust of war.
