Boston Boomer Boy is a well-crafted tale of a lad growing up in the English Midlands in the economically straitened years just after the end of WW2.
From his earliest memories of family life in a market town in the middle of the Lincolnshire fens, moving twice as his father gained job promotions until he left the bosom of his family to go to college, John's account is of an ordinary 'baby boomer boy's' childhood and adolescence.
By the time he was 11 and went on to grammar school, the 60s had dawned and things changed forever. It became about Swinging London, Twiggy and the Beatles. Parents found it difficult to comprehend the massive youth culture which rapidly took hold. Long-haired pop stars seemed to rule the roost, much to the consternation of the older generation.
Going to college in 1967, in the summer of love, added an extra, and a quite wonderful dimension to life.
