The Travels of Abdul ibn Usman is set in the eighth century during the reign of Haroun el Rashid, as it follows the adventures of Abdul as he leads his caravan from his home in Oman across the Middle East, carrying goods from place to place with Ali, a magical child who has jumped aboard the caravan in Baghdad.
As they travel from city to city across fertile settled lands and trackless desert, the pair undergo hardship and conflict as well as kindness and luxury, hunger, thirst, followed by stuffed bellies.
Abdul takes us to a time long before ours, to a world far from our imagining.
As we travel with them we come to realise that Abdul is not all he seems.
Nor is Ali.
