Struggling with her own cultural latency, she is caught unprepared when a disastrous bioclasm strikes, infecting her - and a minority of the colony's inhabitants - with alien genetic symbiotes, metamorphosing them into something inhuman. Clinging to her understanding of humanity, she must now struggle against the preconceived notions of who - or what - she is, all the while navigating an unfamiliar world.
