This is a memoir of a spiritual and healing journey that included the extremes of spiritual heights ("heaven") and emotional, energetic, and psychological depths ("earth," at times more like hell). It is the story of how Kenna learned to walk a middle way between the two extremes, and how she found what her therapist has called "a sane, sober, integrated spirituality." It is also the story of how she came to trust herself after a lifetime of doubting her own instincts and feelings.

Kenna takes us on a complex internal and external journey through pain, confusion and addiction, triumphs, setbacks, and triumphs again. Her story includes mystical experiences in India and at home, multiple stints on the Camino de Santiago, a long process of uncovering hidden incest and struggles to trust what she found, a relationship with a narcissist, and a near-death kundalini awakening. She ultimately disentangles herself from her many inner and outer traps and gains the perspective that everything had a purpose, that everything ultimately led her to her purpose. Readers will be struck by her honesty, her courage, and her resilience.

Kenna's story offers wisdom and hope for a variety of audiences, from seekers looking to balance their spiritual and human lives, to those who have had a difficult kundalini awakening, and to those with debilitating psychological and/or physical symptoms who sense that they might have suffered childhood abuse but have no visual memories. For the latter audience, she offers the message that there are other ways to know what happened to you and it is possible to come to trust yourself and heal.

Kenna Vernet is a writer, coach, and lover of walking and travel, especially the intersection of the two, especially on the trails of the Camino de Santiago. She offers coaching to the audiences mentioned above and leads transformative small group trips on the Camino.
