Rescue on the Rainbow Comet Short Summary -" Rescue on the Rainbow Comet."
Fantasy writers have long predicted that the Rainbow Comet would send a seven-ribbon ship bringing star-rich rain to parched worlds every few hundred years. Maya, Theo, Noor, and Jamal wait on a Maple Glen rooftop in late summer for that promise to come true. Maya's notebook has star and question designs. Using tubes, lenses, and a cookie tin, Theo tunes his makeshift telescope. Noor soothes a rainbow ribbon in her hair for the planets they want to help. Jamal balances cocoa, with cinnamon trailing like a comet.
Theo notices unusual sky signals when the observatory indicates the comet is early. As the sun sets, the porch lights go out and a dawn-like brightness covers the sea. As seven dazzling strands interweave, the comet appears. It then becomes stuck, stutters, and shudders off track, as if it could miss the bend to thirsty worlds.
The kids act before fear takes hold. James claims that a missed comet will not drown worlds. "Then we help it find the curve," someone says, offering courage. They don't have rockets but are fascinating, so they use bicycle markers to ring the telescope and flash a makeshift signal: three quick blinks, two slow blinks, and three quick blinks. A tiny welcome with much hope goes from rooftop tonight.
Answers exist. Ships open by chimneys. Prisms on its hull let starlight run down the shingles like little rivers. The voice says, "We saw your greeting," like many voices. "Will you help us fix our rainbow?"
After silence, all four answer "yes" silently. Questions, daring, and homemade tools connect them to a greater potential. Some adventures begin with your light, and the sky offers promises only bold people can keep. Mirrors, journals, and cocoa beans are collected as they approach the hatch. Satellites twinkle above and the ceiling hums below. The rescue is underway.
