Take a journey into the fascinating world of carnivorous plants, and discover how diverse they are, thriving in nearly every part of our planet except Antarctica. This book offers information on their classification and origins, including details about their natural habitat, comprehensive descriptions of the plants, and a wealth of coloured photographs. Most importantly, it also explores the cultivation of these plants, examining all of their specific requirements.
Whether you are new to growing carnivorous plants or have been cultivating them for years, I have intentionally included numerous botanical terms throughout this book, all of which are explained in the glossary. Even experienced enthusiasts may find it helpful to consult a few of these entries (unless, of course, you are already botanically qualified). This approach prepares you - especially if you are just starting out and plan to expand your collection - for the time when you decide to become more involved with the carnivorous plant community and its societies. That way, you will already have a solid grasp of these terms and can choose whether you wish to use them yourself.
I believe and hope that this book will be most useful, for both those new to cultivating these fascinating plants and for enthusiasts alike.
Enjoy!
About the Author
From a young age Dirk's passion for plants, cultivating many different types and desire to acquire a deeper understanding of them led to his focus on carnivorous plants, at a time they were not widely known about and not greatly understood. Although he does not hold formal horticultural qualifications, his background in report writing, project work, teaching and years of hands-on experience in growing and photographing carnivorous plants has provided him with the skills and ability to write this book.
