The Ghost in the Mirror
Who is Benjamin Arnott-Smith? He'd tell you if he could. Vacationing with his brother and sister-in-law, Ben awakens with a migraine. When his head clears, reality clouds over: The life he's awakened to doesn't match his memories, and neither does his body. Chronic ailments have vanished. He seems to be rich. He's engaged to a great-looking guy he can't recall meeting. And what about his apparent super-power? Is that even possible? Ben's new waking reality seems unfamiliar and baffling, while his remembered past may never have existed.
Not knowing whether he's caught in a hoax, an alternate universe, or an insane delusion, Ben searches for answers. His quest becomes a three-week romantic adventure with sci-fi elements beginning on a private island off the coast of Argentina, where he's treated as a media star and national hero - not the paralegal from New Jersey with health problems he thought he was. On an eleven-hour redeye flight from Buenos Aires to Newark with his vacation-mates and new friends, Ben discovers some answers but even more questions about his identity. Finally, on home ground, Ben confronts his parents and friends from his past, including a high school teacher he reveres as a personal guru. She prompts Ben to realize that he has been asking the wrong questions.
Like all of us, Ben must decide who he is: his capabilities, his values, and how he wants to live his life. In The Ghost in the Mirror he learns that whichever future he believes in will be his to live - but that belief must be earned rather than just accepted.
