One small family one sailboat - ten years- 56 countries. We set out to raise our son as a global citizen, anchoring off small villages in order to linger with the locals, Sailing around the world eastabout, we found ourselves surviving piracy attacks off of Dominica, Yemen, and Sri Lanka, a typhoon off of Japan, a lightning strike in Egypt, continual mechanical failures at the worst of moments, and almost lost our lives to an iceberg in Alaska. We salled into Ukraine alone, the first American private yacht since the cold war, and navigated the Rajang River through northern Borneo, celebrating the Iban festival with headhunters. Living aboard is magical a continual learning experience filled with sharing delightful meals with new friends, ocean adventures, and educational land trips. Home-based in Hawaii, we shared Alona around the world, and it came back to us in abundance, We hope our story inspires you to think out of the box, reconsider the rat race, live in the moment, and take yourselves sailing. First half takes us from Florida down the Caribbean Islands across the Atlantic and into the Mediterranean, then to Ukraine and Bulgaria. The second halt takes us up to Northern Europe, then through the Suez past Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea, Yemen, the Maldives, and Srilanka, and onto South East Asia crossing the Pacific from Japan to back home in Hawaii.
