Pip heard the crowd before she saw it. The noise started as a low throb, rising to an overwhelming din as the people of Pompeii filled the amphitheatre. She closed her eyes and thought of her mum. She thought of how the noise of the crowd would be terrifying to her. She felt helpless and trapped.

On her thirteenth birthday, Pip is given news that will change her world forever. She soon finds herself alone, in Pompeii in AD79. Can she complete her mission before Vesuvius erupts?
