When you want to turn left or right, you turn the steering accordingly.

The pilot communicates with the controller and working with a compass, sets his plane accordingly using the navigator. In the sea, the Captain also uses a compass for his navigation.

When the children of Israel were going to the promised land from Egypt, the pillar of cloud was their navigator in the day while the pillar of fire was their navigator in the night. In all events, there has to be a navigator or director for a journey to be completed successfully.
