The contemporary world is struggling to deal with the ecological crisis. In the midst of the current world-wide concern, how can Christians respond in a meaningful way? Pope Francis has taken a lead and has demonstrated a keen interest in the protection of, and care for, the created world. This theme has been a prominent feature of many of his homilies, public addresses and, quintessentially, the papal encyclical, Laudato Si' (2015) and the recent Apostolic Exhortation, Laudate Deum (2023).
This book offers a variety of well-informed theological responses to the ongoing destruction of the environment and the need for the preservation and care of the created world for future generations in our 'common home'. Many of the contributions draw on the writings of Pope Francis, but also draw extensively on a variety of biblical texts and contemporary thinking in ecological theology. This is the second edited collection produced by the Catholic Theological Association for Messenger Publications, following on from the success of Synodality and the Recovery of Vatican II - A New Way for Catholics (2024). This edited book features some of the prominent Catholic theological thinkers who are members of the Association and includes contributions from some invited guests.
