This book shows two sides of a mental breakdown. The first described by Laurie as she experienced it when she was 18. The other described by her mother Carol as she tried to understand and find help for Laurie.
A person having a breakdown loses their normal perception of reality and finds it difficult to make appropriate choices. They need someone to guide them towards help and show them love and acceptance while they struggle to once again find their true self.
Don't give up-there is a right kind of help somewhere. Mental illness is not a death sentence. Greater awareness and education have brought about successful treatments for many. The closet doors are opening. More help and greater compassion are erasing the stigma, which has for so many years haunted persons going through this illness. This is why we have written this book.
