For over 300 years people have been fascinated with the fall of the Stewart dynasty, and the subsequent rise of the Hanoverian dynasty. The latter Hanoverians led directly to His Majesty, King Charles III, and the modern-day royal family, which people are so fascinated by in the British Commonwealth. However, people are equally fascinated by the Jacobites and their attempts to restore the exiled Stewarts to the British Crown. This has been most recently popularized by the Outlander book series, and the accompanying television serial. But this is just the latest in an approximately 200 year- long series of interpretations of the Jacobite movement which lasted from 1688-1760. So, in an effort to dispel some of the misconceptions, this short book tells the story of the Jacobite cause. It also gives a lot of useful background information in understanding the context of the Jacobites and their movement to restore the Stewarts as the rightful monarchs of England, Scotland, and Ireland, which has political consequences that last to this day. It is a brief description of the Stewarts in British history from the accession of King James I of England, who was also King James VI of Scotland, through the English Civil War, and the parliamentary dictatorship of Oliver Cromwell, along with the restoration of King Charles II in 1660. The book then goes on to its main focus of the Jacobite story. This started with the Glorious Revolution in 1688. This led to the overthrow of King James II/VII, and then the four subsequent attempts between 1688 and 1745 of the Stewarts to reclaim the crown. It ends with the death of Henry Benedict Stewart in 1807, nearly 125 years after the Jacobite story began. In short, forget all those popular songs, books, TV Shows, movies, etc., and read about the true history of the Jacobites and how they shaped both Britain and the foundations of the British Empire, which in turn has shaped our modern globalized English-Speaking Western world today.
