When Seraphrax, the crimson dragon, gives his life to drag the Volcryn into the abyss, Lucy is left with grief, a single iridescent scale, and the knowledge that her power nearly killed her the first time she used it. Returning home to her mother and grandmother, she hides the truth of her quest, clutching her dragon's parting gift and longing for skies filled with fire.
